Tryin' REAL hard to find nice things to say about Charleston, North Charleston, and the surrounding areas as an Uber driver, but my fellow residents are making it a bit harder   these days.



Wyndham's Take on Hospitality


Wyndham Hotel Group Stay #1-University Blvd, North

The hotel staff was icily pleasant enough, but no real problems arose on check in. It is when I went to my room that I understood there were problems. First off, there was stains in the toilet, it hadn't been wiped down, and there was no liner in the garbage can. It was clear the bathroom had not been cleaned. 


When I asked for service on the room to clean the bathroom, they said "we can't do anything about this; housekeeping is gone for the night." After that initial shock, I convinced them to send someone up to clean it. Maintenance could not be more ticked at the request. He finally did it, and left.


I had gone to bed that night, and the smell of sweat from the previous person reeked from the pillows and bed linen. I was livid. I asked to be put in another room. Same situation, smelly linen, and indifference. I thought because it was an all white staff
only sending blacks to help me that it was based on racism.

This could not be further from the truth.

















The Room From Hell


Wyndham Hotel Group Stay #1-Northwoods Blvd, North Charleston, SC


This one is pushing roadside hotel status.

I went for a stay-cation (not trying to dumb anyone down, but a #vacation in your hometown.) I stayed at the #hotel Hawthorne Suites by #Wyndham in North Charleston, SC.I had a #cancer diagnosis and wanted to relax.


The room smelt awful. A manager came in with the cleaning staff. He looked around and said everything was fine. He then said the smell was just the rain from outside. I explained I was from Charleston and grew up there, and knew of no such smell. He doubled down on his statement and left with the cleaning staff. I looked around and couldn't believe how rundown the room was.


Some of the issues included, but were not limited to:


1) A mirrored door was missing.
2) Dust everywhere, including the door to the air unit
3) Cobwebs and dirt in on the floor of the two door closet with one door
3) A fake finger nail from the previous occupant was still on the floor.
4) Flies were in throughout the kitchen, main room and bathroom
6) You could still smell stale beer towards to garbage can in the kitchen from the guests before.
7) and the shining star of this nightmare stay was the feces on the shower wall.
(I wish I did not delete the photos from my phone. I will try to extract them from my Expedia comment on the hotel.)


I contacted the hotel front desk again. Renee the desk clerk was breathtakingly rude.


The manager said the cleaning staff left for the day and that there was nothing he could do. When I asked if he could handle it, he insisted there was nothing he could do.
Wanted a refund, but said he would take a percentage off the room and suggested that I could go stay somewhere else.


I had to buy cleaning supplies to clean my room for the night, including fly traps.

#Charleston and the surrounding area #hotels have gone down hill in the last decade or so. I just wasn't expecting it to be quite that bad.


If I wanted to vacation in New York, I would have flown there. The #travel magazine 

#condenaste should probably revisit #Charleston before they give their blessing as a destination #wedding site to protect its brand.


This #hotel chain needs some revamping inside and out, ESPECIALLY Human Resources. I hope you keep this in mind before you plan your next #trip, #holiday,#family or #business.

Attitude: 1 – (Because of North Charleston, SC location's conduct.)
Communication: 2 (At one point, I was at the desk for over 5 minutes waiting for someone. They never came out to the desk.)
Ability to reach: 5 (Someone was always on the other line. Rude; but on the other line.)
Return Policy/Refunds: 4 (Refund was offered after 5 day hold.)
Corrections of Errors: 1 (Would not clean their hotel rooms if their lives depended on it.)

Timeliness: 1- Room was not clean when I got there. Would have waited, but they didn't offer.

Portability 2 – Did not offer another room. Would not accommodate anywhere else in the area.
Ease of Use: 1 –Again. Feces on the wall. Should not have to clean my own hotel room.
Hours: 5 - Front Desk is open late. Keypad lock needed after a certain hour.
